Finding a Study Buddy

Learn about our study buddy program for paired learning and mutual accountability.

Why Study with a Buddy?

Research consistently shows that learning with a partner improves retention, motivation, and consistency. Our Study Buddy program connects you with another Ilm Al Lughah learner who's at a similar level in their Arabic studies. Together, you can practice conversations, quiz each other, discuss difficult concepts, and hold each other accountable for maintaining daily study habits. Having a study buddy transforms learning from a solo activity into a social and enjoyable experience.

How the Program Works

To find a study buddy, visit the Community section and select "Find a Study Buddy." You'll fill out a brief profile indicating your current level (beginner, intermediate, advanced), study goals (Sarf, Nahw, Tajweed, conversational Arabic, etc.), preferred study times, and time zone. Our system will suggest compatible matches based on these criteria. You can review profiles and send a request to potential study buddies.

What to Do Together

Once matched, here are some activities you can do with your study buddy: 1) Set a shared study schedule and hold each other accountable. 2) Review flashcards together — one person shows the Arabic, the other translates. 3) Discuss challenging grammar concepts from Sarf and Nahw lessons. 4) Practice reading Arabic text aloud for Tajweed improvement. 5) Challenge each other with friendly quiz competitions. 6) Share helpful resources and study tips you've discovered.

Tips for a Great Partnership

To make the most of your study buddy relationship: set clear expectations from the start about how often you'll meet and what you'll cover. Be patient and encouraging — you're both learners. Communicate openly if something isn't working. Respect each other's schedules and learning pace. If the match doesn't feel right, it's okay to politely part ways and find a new buddy. The goal is mutual growth, and finding the right partner can make a tremendous difference in your Arabic learning journey.
