The Diagnostic Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation tool available in each course on Ilm Al Lughah. Unlike regular quizzes that test material from a single lesson, the diagnostic assessment covers all major topics in the course to give you a complete picture of your knowledge landscape. It answers the question: "What do I know, and what do I still need to learn?"
The diagnostic assessment typically contains 40-60 questions spanning every unit in the course. It uses a variety of question types (multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, audio-based) to test both recognition and recall. The assessment is untimed, allowing you to take as long as you need. It is designed to be taken at key points in your learning journey — at the beginning of a course (to establish a baseline), midway through (to check progress), and at the end (to confirm mastery).
After completing the diagnostic, you receive a detailed skills report that breaks down your performance by topic area. For example, in the Tajweed course, the report might show: Makharij al-Huroof — 85% (strong), Noon Sakinah Rules — 70% (good), Madd Rules — 45% (needs work), Stopping Rules — 30% (review recommended). This granular feedback lets you prioritize your study time on the areas that need the most attention.
The diagnostic assessment is not graded in the traditional sense — it does not affect your course progress or XP. Its sole purpose is to provide you with actionable insights about your learning. Based on your results, the platform may generate a personalized study plan that recommends specific lessons to review and exercises to practice. You can retake the diagnostic at any time to see how your skills have improved. We recommend taking it at least twice — once before focused study and once after — to measure your growth.
