Course Completion Percentage Explained

Understand how course completion percentage is calculated and what it means for your learning progress.

The course completion percentage is one of the most visible metrics on your Ilm Al Lughah dashboard. It represents how much of a course you have successfully completed, displayed as a percentage from 0% to 100% alongside a visual progress bar. Understanding how this percentage is calculated helps you set realistic goals and track your progress accurately.

The completion percentage is calculated based on a weighted combination of two factors: lesson completion (weighted at 60%) and quiz/assessment performance (weighted at 40%). A lesson is considered complete when you have viewed the lesson content and passed its associated quiz with at least 70%. Simply viewing a lesson without completing the quiz counts as partially complete. End-of-unit assessments contribute more heavily to the assessment portion of the percentage due to their comprehensive nature.

For example, if a course has 20 lessons and you have completed 10 of them with an average quiz score of 85%, your completion percentage would be calculated as: (10/20 × 60%) + (85% × 10/20 × 40%) = 30% + 17% = 47%. This weighting ensures that both breadth (how many lessons you have covered) and depth (how well you understand the material) are reflected in your overall percentage.

The progress bar uses color coding to give you a quick visual indicator: red (0-25%), orange (26-50%), yellow (51-75%), and green (76-100%). Reaching 100% completion earns you a course completion certificate and a special badge. Note that your completion percentage can go down slightly if you retake quizzes and score lower than your previous best — but this is rare. We display your best scores, so your percentage should generally only go up as you learn more.
