Every flashcard on Ilm Al Lughah has an associated difficulty level that the system calculates based on your review history. Understanding how these levels work can help you make the most of your study sessions and prioritize your learning efforts.
Flashcards are categorized into four difficulty tiers: New (never reviewed), Learning (recently introduced, still being reinforced), Reviewing (in the regular spaced repetition cycle), and Mastered (consistently recalled correctly over extended intervals). Each tier has a distinct color indicator so you can see your progress at a glance.
The difficulty of a card influences how often it appears in your review queue. Learning cards appear most frequently — sometimes multiple times per session — because they need the most reinforcement. Reviewing cards appear at their scheduled intervals. Mastered cards rarely appear, but the system will resurface them occasionally to prevent long-term forgetting.
You can view a breakdown of your cards by difficulty level in the Flashcard Dashboard. This overview shows you how many cards are in each tier, giving you a clear picture of your progress. Aim to move as many cards as possible from "Learning" to "Mastered" — that's where real, durable knowledge lives.
